BEAR Down by Martin Flowers
Papa Bear Approves
With the Bears hiring Ben Johnson a new era has started here in Chicago. The Bears went into 2024 season fill of hopes and started out 4 and 2 and then went on to lose 10 in a row with six of those games by 3 points or less. So went wrong the answer is in the coaching the team quit playing and gave up. The offense and defensive schemes did not match what the roster was built for. For example, on offense too much pressure was put on a rookie quarterback by not establishing the run. All that rookie quarterback did was throw for over 3500 yards and only throw six picks after being sacked 70 times. He never quit instead in five late game drives he put us in a position to win. Tight end was not used Cole Kemet was never properly tagged as a weapon in the mid field and down in the red zone. Offensive Line was never addressed and instead of using simple zone blocking the bears tried these elaborate schemes. On Defense simple the 3 four in which more pressure is put on the Linebackers to stop the run and there is no true pressure applied to the Quarterback when not able to Blitz. Look, Montez Sweat is an amazing player, and he needs help up the middle and on the other end, the Bears do have Austin Booker if used correctly can be a threat in pass situations. Overall, the Bears were 5 and 12 but if you look between the numbers this team was its own worst enemy and needs club house discipline and better structure,
That’s where Ben Johnson will come in and already is making the move handing Defense over to Dennis Green, a former head coach who develops talent and gets results. His Coaching staff will be much more suited to ensure the players are game ready and Ben will continue to help Caleb Williams develop into a great Quarterback. Ryan Poles will work with Ben Johnson and use the 85 million we have in Salary Cap to find the lineman on both offense and defensive side of the ball to shore up and develop better pass protection for Caleb Williams. That leaves the running game in which Swift did run for 958 yards and showed glimpses of being successful at times. However, the Bears need another threat and maybe in the latter rounds of the draft can fill the void. Speaking of the draft, the Bears have some capital with three picks in the top 40 and they are going big. It is said you can’t teach size, so the Bears will ignore that because they need size and speed to fill the void in the trenches. Look here is the Silver Lining the Bears are already four games better by just hiring the new head coach because he understands fundamentals and will instill discipline because penalties cost the Bears at least three games. So let the new era begin!
